Women's Tennis to open fall season at Drake Invitational

GREELEY -- Tennis season is now among us as the Bears women's tennis team prepares to travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take part in the Drake Fall Invitational. Singles and doubles action starts on Friday and continues through Sunday.

Roger Knapp Tennis Center will be the host site of the three day tournament including seven teams. The teams include: Northern Colorado, Drake, Bradley, Creighton, Iowa State, Nebraska Omaha and North Dakota.

Singles play will be double elimination while doubles will be triple elimination.

Action on Friday starts at 9 a.m. with the first round of doubles. The second round of doubles will follow at 12:30 p.m. The first round of singles will kick off at 2 p.m. with the second half of the first round singles at 4:15 p.m.

Doubles play starts Saturday morning as well at 9 a.m. Second round singles will continue at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The semifinals of the main draw/back draw singles begins at 3 p.m. to finish off the day.

Sunday action starts at 9 a.m. again with the last round of doubles. The start time for the finals of the main draw/back draw is 10 a.m. The losers of the semis will face-off in the main draw and back draw.

Stephanie Catlin comes into 2013 as one of the leaders of the 2012 Bears' team. The Basingstoke, England native finished the 2012 fall season with a record of 7-5 in singles, including an undefeated tournament at the Creighton Invitational, and 5-5 in doubles. Catlin also finished spring action with 10 wins in the singles No. 3 spot.

Chrissie Hoolahan enters her junior season after a strong sophomore campaign, much of which came in the late part of the spring. The Richmond, Surrey, England native finished the 2013 spring season on a 10-1 run after starting with a 1-8 record. Hoolahan went 10-3 at the No. 5 spot and 9-12 in doubles at the No. 2. She took part in doubles action with Hilary Walters-West and Claire Uhle.

Hilary Walters-West went undefeated in fall tournament action as a freshman in 2012. The Simi Valley, Calif., native took down every opponent in the Colorado State Invitational and the Creighton Invitational while finishing the fall season at 7-3. Walters-West, like Hoolahan, finished the 2013 spring season strong, winning 12 straight matches at No. 6. She totaled the most singles wins on the team with 14.

Taylor Schumacher comes into her junior season after taking part in fall matches and one doubles match in the spring. The Austin, Texas native finished 4-5 in singles action and 2-6 in doubles during fall tournament play.

Four freshmen will be looking to make an imact on the court during their first season at Northern Colorado. The freshmen include: Marissa Baca, Beth Coton, Courtney Schulte and Laura Wehner.
