Women's tennis sweeps WNMU

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Northern Colorado women's tennis team returned to the win column on Sunday with a 7-0 sweep over Western New Mexico.

The Bears dominated the competition, winning all six singles matches in straight sets, as well as allowing only three total points in doubles play.

Adriana Nieto and Jennifer Whateley at number two doubles and Jill Kappel and Lexi Filliol at number three doubles shut out the Mustangs with each pair winning 8-0.

Nieto won her second match this year at number one singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Doris Berberic, while Whateley won 6-2, 6-1 at number two.

At number three singles, Elizabeth Tapia won both sets by the score of 6-3 and at number four, Jennifer Buchanan lost only one game, 6-1, 6-0.

Stephanie Catlin won 6-0, 6-2 at number five singles and Filliol pitched a shutout, winning 6-0, 6-0 to give the Bears the sweep.

Northern Colorado takes the court next on April 12 against instate rival, Colorado State. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 pm
