Women's Tennis Falls In Season Finale

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- In their final match of the regular season, the Northern Colorado women’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to Colorado State University.
The match began with doubles play where Sydney Bell and Jill Kappel were the only pair for the Bears to pick up a win. They did so at the No. 2 spot, defeating Tori Arneson & Lauren Mulhern 8-1.
Despite the efforts of Bell and Kappel, NC failed to earn the doubles point. In their final collegiate match as a team, sisters Tabatha and Tiffany Knop lost at No. 1 8-5 to Laura Neal & Caitlin Fluegge. At the No. 3 position CSU’s Melissa Holzinger & Veronika Wojakowska defeated Hannah LaForest and Jennifer Whateley 8-5. This was also the final doubles match for LaForest.
Tabatha Knop picked up the only point of the match for the Bears. She defeated Neal 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7) in a three-set thriller.
At the No. 2 spot, Tiffany Knop lost to Arneson in her final match as a Bear. Arneson won in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Whateley lost to Fluegge 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 match up.
Also playing her final match as for NC, Luiza Xavier was unable to end her career with a win. She lost to Holzinger 6-2, 6-2. Bell was defeated by Mulhern 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 position and Jill Kappel rounded out singles action with a loss to Wojakowska 6-1, 6-0.
