Women's Tennis Sweeps Portland State In Season Opener
GREELEY, Colo. - The Northern Colorado women's tennis team opened its season against Big Sky Conference rival Portland State and posted a 7-0 victory against an injury shortened roster.
The Bears got on the board first with the doubles point as both Tabatha and Tiffany Knop at number one and Jenny Whateley and Sydney Bell at number two won the set.
At number one singles, Tabatha Knop won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 as did Tiffany Knop at number two (6-4, 6-1) and Luiza Xavier at number four (6-2, 6-3). Whateley won a hard-fought battle at the third position, dropping the first set 6-4, but winning the next two sets 6-2 and 10-3.
The Bears also got two wins at number five and six singles as the Vikings defaulted.
Northern Colorado continues Big Sky Conference action on Valentine's Day when the Bears host Northern Arizona at Work Out West at 1:00 p.m.
