Women's tennis ends Cali. trip with loss to Dons
RESULTS: at San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Northern Colorado's women's tennis team ended its spring break trip through California on Wednesday, March 18, with a 5-2 loss to San Francisco at Golden Gate Park.
The Bears (5-10, 3-2 Big Sky Conference) got singles victories from Tiffany Knop (No. 3) and Jill Kappel (No. 4), but those were the only points they were able to get off the West Coast Conference Dons.
Knop cruised through her first set against USF's Julia Wartenburg with a 6-1 win before battling for a 7-5 second-set victory.
Kappel went the other direction, getting a tough 7-6 win in the first set before cruising to a 6-0 win in set two. The win continued Kappel's strong freshman season, in which she's now a team-best 9-5 in singles matches.
Northern Colorado will return to conference play on Sunday, March 22, with a home match against Eastern Washington before hosting Montana and Montana State on Friday, March 28, and Friday, April 3, respectively.
