Women's tennis drops nonconference matches to UNC-Greensboro and Xavier

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Northern Colorado's women's tennis team struck for a few points in its nonconference matches Tuesday, March 3, against UNC-Greensboro and Xavier but wasn't able to get past either squad, falling 5-2 and 6-1, respectively.

The Bears (3-6, 3-0 Big Sky Conference) got victories at No. 1 doubles (Tabatha Knop and Manuela Santos) in both the matches, and Santos emerged on top of both of her No. 3 singles matches.

True-freshman Jill Kappel also won at No. 4 singles against the Spartans, getting a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 win against Britney Cloer.

Knop and Santos knocked off UNC-Greensboro's top squad of Ale Guerra and Arielle VonStrolley, 8-6, before taking down the Musketeers' Kelsey Kinnard and Tifanie Treece, 8-4.

Northern Colorado will next hop back into Big Sky play this weekend when it takes on Northern Arizona at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in Flagstaff, Ariz.
