Swimming & Diving Defeats Air Force, 209-82

Greeley, COLO. - The University of Northern Colorado swimming & diving team defeated the Air Force Academy, 209-82 at the Butler-Hancock pool this evening. The Bears won 13 of 16 events en route to the victory.

 

Junior Katie Schmitt won both the 1,000 yard free and the 100 yard free for the Bears, turning in times of 11:03.06 and 53.95, respectively. Sophomore Nan Liu also won two events, winning the 100 yard backstroke (58.31) and the 100 yard butterfly (57.11) and freshman Tori Gutt won both the 200 yard butterfly (2:13.09) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:24.36), which is the fourth fastest time in school history. Gutt also placed second in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:13.93.

 

Other champions for the Bears were junior Krista Griffin in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.40), junior Chesney Randolph in the 200 yard backstroke (2:12.67) and junior Whitney Dahms in the 500 yard free (5:28.41).

 

Sarah Cook also won both the one-meter (222.83) and three-meter (245.45) diving, and her three-meter total is the third-highest total ever at Northern Colorado.

 

The Bears also won both relays with the quartet of Liu, Gutt, Randolph and Dawn Adams winning the 200 medley relay in 1:52.31 and Liu, Helen Husbands, Kati Falger and Schmitt winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:46.06.

 

Northern Colorado will now take a break from competition for final examinations and the holidays, returning to the pool for winter training and competitions in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Jan. 3.
