First winter training meet a tough one for AquaBears

LOS ANGELES -- The Northern Colorado swimming & diving team faced two tough opponents on Tuesday afternoon in Loyola Marymount and Cal State Bakersfield in the Bears first winter training meet.
The Bears had just five top-three finishes in the 14-event meet with freshman Courtney Van Oost winning the only title. Van Oost posted a time of 2:11.52 in the 200 backstroke to touch the wall first.
Fellow freshman Renee Stephens placed second in the 200 breaststroke after timing a 2:31.15.
The quartet of Kira Alger, Sammy Leonard, Van Oost and JJ Smith also finished second in the 400 freestyle relay after clocking a 3:44.90.
Sophomore Tatum Boehnke swam exactly 11 minutes in the 1000 freestyle to finish third overall, while junior Amanda Donegan was also third, swimming a 5:20.87 in the 500 free.
The AquaBears return to the pool on Friday against San Diego State and then face Tulane at SDSU on Saturday before returning to Greeley.
