Bears Come In Seventh In Final Meet of 2008

RESULTS: Day four

LINCOLN, Neb. -- South Dakota State leapfrogged past Northern Colorado in the team standings during the final day of the 2008 Husker Invitational at the University of Nebraska.

The Bears finished with 201 team points during the four-day invite, which was good enough for a seventh-place showing. Rice (954.5 points) took home the event crown.

Sophomore Tori Gutt, much as she did for most of the past four days, led Northern Colorado on Sunday. She finished 12th in the 400-yard individual medley in four minutes, 37.18 seconds, and she took 19th in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.49).

Gutt was also a member of the Bears' 17th-place 800 freestyle relay team (Cheryl Bready, Hannah Halstrom and Whitney Dahms) that came in in 8:06.04 and Northern Colorado's 200 medley relay (Sam Leonard, Amanda Donegan and JJ Smith) that came in 20th out of 33 competiting teams in 1:55.68.

Sarah Cook (fifth) and Kelly Schmeckpeper-Cook (12th) had success in three-meter diving.

The Bears and coach Maria Strait will now take the rest of the semester off before competiting again on Jan. 2, 2009, in the Mike Peppe One-Meter Diving Invitational in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
