OGDEN, Utah – After lending a hand in three of Northern Colorado's four goals Sunday, senior forward Ariel Cook has been named this week's Big Sky Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
Cook, an Arizona native, finished last season as Northern Colorado's second-leading goal scorer (7), but had been held scoreless in 2011. Well, at least until Sunday's 4-2 victory over South Dakota.
Cook started off the day's scoring with a goal off a penalty kick in just the fourth minute of play.
After giving the Bears the early lead, the forward helped put the game away by assisting on two of Northern Colorado's final three goals, including a creative header that she flicked to Danielle Birdsall for the game's final goal.
After her tremendous day, Cook now finds herself as the team's leader in both assists (4) and points (6). Her four assists are also good for second in the Big Sky.
Fortunately for the Bears, Cook looks like she found her offensive mojo at just the right time, as the team prepares to open up conference play on Friday, Sept. 30 at home against the defending Big Sky champion Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
