Borman, Birdsall honored for academic success
GREELEY, Colo. – Just a day after having four players named to Big Sky All-Conference teams, the Northern Colorado women's soccer program found out it had two players named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District 7 First Team.
Senior Katey Borman and sophomore Danielle Birdsall were honored for their success both on the field and in the classroom by being named to the team.
Borman, a defender from Corvallis, Ore., is a mathematics major with an emphasis in secondary teaching. She is the owner of a 3.93 grade point average and a contributor to a Bears' defense that has allowed just seven goals in Big Sky action and a 10-5-3 record.
She has played in all 18 games for Northern Colorado this season, notching an assist and 11 shots. This is her second time being named to the All-District 7 team, earning a second-team spot last year to go along with two-straight places on the Big Sky Fall All-Academic Team.
Birdsall, a forward from Broomfield, was named to the first-team alongside Borman after accumulating a 4.00 grade point average as a business administration major.
Her athletic success rivals her academic achievements, as she was named the Big Sky's Offensive MVP yesterday. She also holds a spot on the Big Sky All-Conference first team.
Birdsall has scored a team-high eight goals, notched three assists and gotten off 31 shots. She also led the Big Sky in total points (19).
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
