OGDEN, Utah -- The Northern Colorado women’s soccer program’s strong start to the 2010 season was recognized Monday after the Big Sky Conference named Danielle Birdsall and Janelle Kramer as its first players of the week for the 2010 season.
In a week where the conference went 3-9-1, the Bears won two games against Mountain West Conference teams, beating Wyoming 2-1 in Laramie on Friday and coming home and defeating Air Force 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
Birdsall, a sophomore forward, was named Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals against Wyoming and adding three more shots on goal against Air Force. She finished with six shots for the week.
Kramer, a junior from Longmont, was named Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Bears limit their opposition to just one goal and 15 shots total. She also was credited with an assist on Kimmie Fielder’s game-winning goal against Air Force.
The Bears’ 2-0 start marks just the eleventh time in school history that the program has gotten off to such a beginning.
Northern Colorado will look to continue its success when it takes on Idaho at home at 7 p.m. Friday night, Aug. 27, and then travels up to Boulder on Sunday, Aug. 29, to take on the Colorado Buffaloes.
