Early goal not enough in Bears loss to Weber State

OGDEN, Utah - Northern Colorado got onto the board first but
suffered a defeat to conference opponent Weber State in a 2-1 loss
on Thursday. This drops the Bears to 4-8-1 on the season and 0-3-0
in Big Sky play.
The Bears came out in the first half aggressive on the ball with
senior Sydney VanderVelde recording a shot on goal only 30 seconds
into the game. Northern Colorado kept the Wildcats goalkeeper busy
throughout the first half forcing four saves compared to the two
made by sophomore Kirsten Salminen.
In the 24th minute of play sophomore Kimmie Feidler
earned her first goal of the season on an unassisted shot from the
top of the box putting the Bears up 1-0.
Five minutes later Weber State responded with a goal from Jessie
Baddley from 16 yards out. The game would remain tied up 1-1 going
into half time.
In the second half Northern Colorado continued its aggressive
play on the ball tallying four shots by three different players and
once again forcing Wildcat goalkeeper Rebecca Ritchie into action.
The game winning goal came in the 55th minute in a
shot from Collette Simmons who took a defelcted shot off of
Salminen from 12 yards out. The Bears we able to attempt four more
shots but were unable to connect with the net.
"We had some great opportunities today," said head coach Tim
Barrera, "We just could not put some goals away."
The Bears continue Big Sky action against Idaho State at noon on
Saturday in Pocatello, Idaho.
