Bears Soccer Defeats Grambling at UTEP Border Shootout

EL PASO, Texas - Bears soccer completed its first game at the UTEP Border Shootout defeating the Grambling Tigers 4-0 in El Paso, Texas. This win moves Northern Colorado to 5-4-0 on the season.

The first goal for the Bears came from junior Marcie Johnson less than a minute after she had substituted in. Senior Jessica Zimmerman had the assist for the goal that had been blocked for the rebound into the goal.

Northern Colorado struck again in the first half two minutes later when Zimmerman took the assist for freshman Kimmie Feidler to put the score at 2-0 for the Bears.

After the half, the Bears kept the momentum going, with senior Maryann Hoke recording her first goal of the season to put Northern Colorado up 3-0. Hoke scored off of an assist from freshman Ariel Cook.

For the final goal of the game the Grambling Tigers, who played the entire match with only nine players, had the ball deflected into the teams own goal to put the final score at 4-0.

In the match the Bears outshot the Tigers 36-4 with 17 of those on goal.

The Bears move on to play UTEP on Sunday Sept. 21 to wrap up the weekend.
