Bears Soccer Kicks Off 2008 Season

Complete Release

Bears soccer is gearing up for the 2008 season with its first game against Bryant University to begin a four game homestand. Northern Colorado finished last season in second place after falling to Sacramento State in the Big Sky championship.

The Bears bring some new faces to the field with seven freshmen and senior transfer MaryAnn Hoke. Hoke comes to the Bears from the University of Connecticut where she played in 24 games for the Huskies.

Along with the new talent, Northern Colorado has some experienced players returning. Senior Teresa Prais will resume her place at forward where she had five goals and three assists in 2007. Junior Sydney Vander Velde returns as well. Vander Velde provided the Bears with four goals last season and also played and started in all 20 games.

Northern Colorado has played Bryant only once before in 1999. The Bears came out on top 3-0 in that match.

On Sunday the Bears move on to face Air Force at Jackson Field. The Bears are 5-4-0 against the Falcons and came out on top in their last meeting 3-1 in 2007.
