Griz Score In Final Minutes To Top Bears Soccer
MISSOULA, Mont. - A last minute shot from the Grizzlies is what
it took for Montana to defeat the Bears in a match that ended 3-2.
This loss drops Northern Colorado to 7-11 on the season and 2-3 in
the Big Sky action. Montana improves to 3-2 in the Big Sky breaking
the tie for fourth place in the conference.
Montana got on the board in a little over one minute into the
game when Kaitlyn Heinsohn had an open goal. Junior Marcie
Johnson provided the Bears response in the 7th minute
with an unassisted shot over the goalkeepers head off of a
turnover.
The game remained tied going into the second half when the
Montana's Lauren Christian earned her first goal of the season off
of a kick from freshman goalkeeper Kirstin Salminen.
Senior Jessica Zimmerman tied it up again in the 68th
minute to get her seventh goal of the season. Zimmerman had a long
shot into the goal past the keeper into an open net.
With the score at 2-2 and the clock at 88:38 Christian scored
her second goal of the game and season for the game winning point.
Heinsohn had the rebound off of a save to get the assist to
Christian to put the final score at 3-2.
Northern Colorado will now travel to Cheney, Wash. to face
Eastern Washington on Oct. 26.
