UNC Wrestling Signs Colorado HS Grappler
The University of Northern Colorado's wrestling squad announced the signing of Sam Vigil from Adams City High School on Wednesday.
Head coach Jack Maughan signed Vigil, who had a 40-1 record this past season at 103 lbs. Vigil was a state runner-up as a junior before capturing the state championship at 103 lbs. as a senior.
Vigil also has a storied career in the Freestyle and Greco-Roman ranks. He was a Junior National Freestyle champion and finished 4th at the Junior National Greco-Roman nationals in 2000, while earning All-America honors in both. Vigil, an Adams City, Colo., native was runner-up at the Southern Junior Regional Freestyle championships and finished 4th at the Southern Junior Regional Greco-Roman nationals in 2000. Vigil is a six-time state of Colorado Freestyle champion.
Maughan said he expects Vigil to challenge for a starting spot at the 125 lb. weight class for the Bears.
