Wrestling Honored For Academics
May 8, 2008
GREELEY, Colo. - The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced its annual Division I All-Academic Top 30 and Individual All-Academic wrestling teams for the 2007-08 season and the Northern Colorado wrestling squad was honored with the 18th best grade point average among Division I teams.
For teams to be eligible for consideration, teams comprise 12 student athletes, including the 10 wrestlers that were the entries in the NCAA tournament conference qualifier. If teams had less than 10 entries for their respective qualifier, they may fill those spots with wrestlers that competed in at least one varsity dual during the season.
The Northern Colorado
team compiled a GPA of 2.963, second in the Western Wrestling
Conference and just .01 off North Dakota State with a 2.973. The
Bears had three student-athletes named to the WWC academic teams
earlier this season as Ryan Johnson was
named to the All-Academic Team and Blayze Bahe, Reece Hopkin and Ed Matthews were
named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
