Bears Wrestler Places in Three National Tournaments

GREELEY, Colo. - Current University of Northern Colorado wrestler Patrick Carey recently competed in a pair of national tournaments, and fared well, finishing in the top-8 in three events.
At the Las Vegas/ASICS U.S. National Championships Carey, a freshman from Marcos de Niza High School in Phoenix, took fifth in the 96 KG / 211.5 lbs. class of the FILA Junior Greco-Roman competition.
In the fifth-place match, Carey blanked Tim Durkin (EJCW) with a 5-0, 6-0 technical fall.
In the Freestyle competition, Carey took sixth, after dropping a 4-1, 8-3 decision.
At the ASICS University National Championships in Akron, Ohio, Carey took eighth, notching three victories in the competition.
In his second match, he defeated Dan Ott of the Titan Wrestling Club in a 7-6, 4-2 decision, and followed that with a fall over Lisandro Traverzo (UPRA) in 1:34. In his final win, Carey shut out John Drake, also of the Titan Wrestling Club, 3-0, 8-0.
