Bears Climb to Seventh in Latest National Wrestling Poll

EDMOND, Okla. - Defending national champion Central Oklahoma regained the No. 1 ranking in the final regular season NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll that was released Wednesday while the University of Northern Colorado Bears vaulted six spots up the poll to claim the number seven ranking.

The Bronchos, who finished the dual season 18-1, moved past previous No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney after a 21-13 win over the Antelopes on Feb. 6. UCO received all eight first-place votes to finish with 160 points in the poll, while UNK fell to fourth after losing to UCO and Nebraska-Omaha.

North Dakota State is second in the poll with 152 points, followed by UNO, UNK and Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.).

Rounding out the top 10 is San Francisco State (Calif.), Northern Colorado, Augustana (S.D.), Indianapolis (Ind.) and Ashland (Ohio).

UCO has two top-ranked individuals -- Mark Dodgen (125) and Cole Province (133) -- and four others in the top four. NDSU is led by No. 1 Paul Carlson (157), while UNO has Chad Wallace (197) and Les Sigman (heavyweight) atop the individual rankings.

Regional qualifying tournaments for Division II will be held the weekend of March 1-2, with the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships set for March 14-15 in Wheeling, W. Va.
