Wrestlers Roar To 32-6 Win Over Visiting Colorado Mines

The University of Northern Colorado wrestling team took care of another in-state rival on Saturday night in Butler-Hancock Hall as the Bears scored a 32-6 triumph over the Colorado School of Mines.

The Bears started early and often with the wins on Saturday night and jumped to a 22-0 lead at the intermission. Freshman Mark Hastings (125 lbs.) started things off in style with an 8-3 win over Jessee Blattner.

Freshman Kyle Swenson (133 lbs.) continued the Bears momentum and got the home fans going with a pin over Dustin Bennetts in the first period (2:57). Junior Ronnie Stafford (141 lbs.) broke out of a two-match losing streak with a 5-3 triumph over Lincoln Thomas.

Junior Loren Hutchins (149 lbs.) put on a quite a show with an 18-6 win over Brian Kinsella and his major decision put UNC up 16-0.

Senior Brody Olson (ranked 3rd at 157 lbs.) took care of business in the third period when he stuck Ross Harkrider with 1:03 left in the match. Olson's pin and win gives him 93 overall wins as a Bear.

Mines got on the board at 165 lbs. when Greg Chirieleison tallied a 3-2 win over Jared Deaguero. The match was tied 2-2 before Chirieleison earned a riding time point to win the match.

The Bears' Tanner Linsacum ended any thought of a Mines' comeback with a solid 15-8 triumph at 174 pounds. Mines Mark Dubrovich earned a 9-5 win over Cole Allison but that was the final win of the night for the Orediggers.

Jeremy Gilkerson tallied his first win of the year with a 12-4 major decision over Robert Black. Redshirt freshman Dusty Hoffschneider completed the Bears' domination with a 9-4 win at heavyweight over Chuck Halstead.

UNC improved to 3-5 overall, while Mines fell to 0-8 on the season.
