Bears wrestlers break through with win

The University of Nothern Colorado wrestling team broke free of their losing streak Friday night defeating St. Cloud State 21-13 in Butler-Hancock Hall. They had lost seven straight duals prior to the evening.

St. Cloud was the first to score as the night began at the 184 weight class, and Cole Allison lost a 11-5 decision. Jason McMillan went on to earn an 11-4 decision at 197 pounds to even the scores up 3-3. UNC then dropped the next two matches to go down 10-3.

Cole Hansen (133 lbs.), Ronnie Stafford (141 lbs.), Simon Hoepfner (149 lbs.), Brody Olson (157 lbs.), Jared Deaguero (165 lbs.) won the next five straight matches to secure a UNC victory. Stafford, Hoepfner, and Olson all had major decisions.

UNC is now 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the North Central Conference. The Bears continue on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Adams State College in Alamoa, Colo., and they return home next weekend to face the number one team in the nation, North Dakota State on Saturday at 2 p.m.

184 Pounds: Nate Whiting (SCSU) wins 11-5 decision over Cole Allison (UNC). Allison is now 7-6. Whiting is now 12-11.

197 Pounds: #8 Jason McMillan (UNC) wins 11-4 decision over Paul Breth (SCSU). McMillan is now 6-4. Breth is now 6-14.

Heavyweight: #6 Dustin Darveaux (SCSU) wins 10-4 decision over Tony Schunke (UNC). Schunke is now 10-10. Darveaux is now 26-6.

125 Pounds: Derek Miller (SCSU) wins 16-6 major decision over Melvin Oliveros (UNC). Oliveros is now 1-11. Miller is now 12-11.

133 Pounds: Cole Hansen (UNC) wins 5-4 decision over John Dirksen (SCSU). Hansen is now 1-1. Dirksen is now 4-15.

141 Pounds: Ronnie Stafford (UNC) wins 15-2 major decision Joe Sathre (SCSU). Stafford is now 14-7. Sathre is now 7-17.

149 Pounds: Simon Hoepfner (UNC) wins 14-4 maj. dec. over Blake Christopherson (SCSU). Hoepfner is now 10-11. Chrisopherson is now 4-9.

157 Pounds: #5 Brody Olson (UNC) wins 14-4 major decision over Dan Duch (SCSU). Olson is now 23-8. Duch is now 10-14.

165 Pounds: Jared Deaguero (UNC) wins 6-2 decision over Matt Neumueller (SCSU). Deaguero is now 17-8. Neumueller is now 20-10.

174 Pounds: #8 Jon Duncombe (SCSU) wins 6-5 decision over Brian Hufford (UNC). Hufford is now 4-3. Duncombe is now 16-10.
