Bears Fail To Lasso Cowboys & Suffer 29-9 Setback

The UNC wrestling squad dropped a home dual match to Wyoming on Wednesday night in Butler-Hancock Hall, 29-9. The Cowboys won seven of 10 matches to claim the dual victory and improve to 8-3 on the season. UNC's loss moves its record to 1-5 on the year.

UNC got victories from freshman Kyle Swenson (133 lbs.), Loren Hutchins (149 lbs.) and Cole Allison (184 lbs.). Swenson scored a 19-12 win over Tyson Shatto to knot the dual at 3-3. But the Bears' Ronnie Stafford (141 lbs.) lost a 15-0 technical fall to Blake Gunter and UNC fell behind 8-3.

Hutchins rallied the Bears back with a 5-2 win over Thad Trujillo. But UNC's Brody Olson (157 lbs.) lost a hard fought 2-1 decision to Andrew Shuler. No. 10-ranked Levi Provost (165 lbs.) held of Jared Deaguero's upset bid and scored a 6-5 victory.

Tanner Linsacum (174 lbs.) rallied in the final seconds to send his match with Justin Salas into overtime but Salas scored the victory with a takedown in the extra session.

Allison secured the Bears' final win of the evening with a 9-3 triumph over Sam Wendland. UNC forfeited at 197 lbs., as Jason McMillan was still unable to make weight and the Cowboys claimed six points in that weight.

In the final match of the evening Dusty Hoffschneider (Hwt.) suffered his first collegiate pin at the hands of Brad Steele with only 14 seconds remaining in the third period.
