Wrestlers Come Up Short At Augustana, 25-19
The UNC wrestling squad fell to 0-3 in the North Central Conference and 1-4 overall after a 25-19 loss to Augustana on Saturday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Bears and Vikings split the 10 matches but UNC had to give Augustana two forfeits.
UNC earned victories from Ronnie Stafford (141 lbs.), Joe Kingry (149 lbs.), Brody Olson (157 lbs.), Jared Deaguero (165 lbs.) and Jason McMillan (197 lbs.)
Stafford scored a 3-1 victory over Ryan Carlson to get UNC on the scoreboard. Kingry followed with a commanding 14-6 major decision over Justin Neiber. The Bears continued to roll as Olson tallied a 3-1 triumph over Seth Webster. Deaguero finished the run of four straight UNC victories with a 3-1 win over Todd Kirkpatrick.
Augustana had earned a forfeit victory at 125 lbs. when Eric Spry failed to make weight and Tyler Haner was slowed with an injury. At 133 lbs., Jacob Ramos (ranked No. 2 in the nation) pinned UNC's Jon Nider in the first period (2:26).
Tom Meester scored a 15-2 victory over Tanner Linsacum at 174 lbs. and the Vikings' Sam Kenton clinched their victory with a 9-3 decision over the Bears' Cole Allison.
McMillan then scored a forfeit victory at 197 lbs. and Augie's James Garvey tallied a forfeit victory at heavyweight to finish the scoring at the meet.
The Bears will now head to the Colorado Collegiates next weekend in Gunnison, Colo.
