Wrestling drops dual at Oregon State
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Northern Colorado wrestling ran into an extremely tough Oregon State team, ranked No. 21 this week, and fell 35-9 on Friday evening.
Senior Gabe Burak continued to be a highlight reel for the Bears, pinning Joe Latham in 4:54. Burak is 13th this week by Intermat and now a perfect 5-0 in duals and 12-1 on the year with six falls.
Junior Sam Bauer was the only other Bear to win as he posted a 10-4 decision over James Roberts at 133 pounds. Bauer snaps a two-match losing streak with the victory and improves to 10-8 overall and 2-3 in dual action.
Senior Casey Cruz put up a tough battle against #5 Mike Mangrum, losing a 7-4 decision at 141 pounds. It is Cruz' first dual loss of the season and he moves to 10-5 on the year.
Junior Justin Gonzales also had a close match, losing 7-4 against #18 Scott Sakaguchi at 149 pounds.
Oregon State won the rest of the bouts, with three coming via fall for the 35-9 win.
