Henderson Earns Third Big Sky Honor
March 21, 2008
OGDEN, Utah -- Northern Colorado senior Jenny Henderson has been honored as the Big Sky Conference women's golfer of the week after tying for third Tuesday, March 18, at the inaugural Elco, Inc. women's intercollegiate tournament at Bakersfield Country Club in Bakersfield, Calif.
Henderson, from Fargo, N.D., was solid and consistent for Northern Colorado at the tournament. Her 6-over-par 80 in the second round Tuesday matched her first-day total and helped her tie for third with British Columbia's Melissa Core (84, 76) and Portland's Kalyn Dodge (76, 84).
Henderson's performance also helped the Bears to a third-place finish in the team standings. Northern Colorado's 657 two-day total was one shot shy of Cal State Northridge (656) and 13 shots behind event-winner Portland (644).
This is Henderson's third Big Sky player-of-the-week nomination during the 2007-08 season. She was first nominated, along with Eastern Washington's Chloe Nelson, on Sept. 12, during the fall season, and she was again tabbed on Oct. 17.
She joins 12 Northern Colorado student-athletes to have been honored as conference players of the week in 2007 and 2008. The list includes Devon Beitzel (men's basketball), Danielle Hagen (women's basketball), Zak Bigelow, Cristian Sarmento and Quincy Wofford (football), Sydney Vander Velde, Heidi Owen, Teresa Prais and Megan Miller (women's soccer) and Allison Raguse (volleyball) in the Big Sky and Daniel Prater and Reece Hopkin (wrestling) in the Western Wrestling Conference.
