OGDEN, Utah -- Northern Colorado's Carleigh Silvers and Portland State's Britney Yada have been selected as this week's Black Clover Big Sky Conference Golfers of the Week after tying for medalist honors at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler, Ariz.
Silvers, a sophomore from Martinsville, Ind., closed the Classic with a collegiate-best and tournament-low round of 69 (-3) on Tuesday. She fired a 1-over-par 73 in Monday's first round and a 1-under 71 in the second to finish with a 54-hole score of 213 (-3).
It was the first individual tournament title for Silvers and just the second for Northern Colorado at the NCAA Division I level. Junior Ali Nelson won the Big Sky Conference individual championship in 2009.
The Golfer of the Week honor is the first for Silvers and the third for Yada, a sophomore from Hilo, Hawai'i, who also won her first collegiate title Tuesday.
Silvers' effort in Arizona helped the Bears finish just below the middle line (12th) in the 23-team field and fourth among Big Sky schools, of which all nine participated in a preview to this year's 2011 Big Sky Conference Women's Golf Championship, which will also be played at Ocotillo from Monday through Wednesday, April 18 and 20.
