Women's Golf Finishes 13th At Cowgirl Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Northern Colorado women's golf team was in Chandler, Ariz., this week playing in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.  The Bears shot progressively better as the tournament moved on to find themselves in 13th in the end tallying an overall score of 972 (323, 321, 328).

Freshman Ali Nelson led the way for the Bears finishing the tournament tied for 19th at an 18-over 234.  Nelson's best round came in the third where she posted a 77.

Next in line for the Bears was senior Heather Daviner.  Daviner saw improvement between her first and second round but slipped a little in the third carding an 84.  The senior was still able to finish the tournament tied for 35th with a posting an overall of 238 (78, 76, 84).

Redshirt senior Katie Avery improved in round two with a score of 81 after posting an 87 in round one.  In round three she fell just between those two scores with a score of 84.  Avery finished the tournament tied for 78th with an overall score of 252.

Freshman Chelsea Silvers stayed consistent with her scores in this tournament carding an 85 in the first two rounds and improving two strokes to an 83 in round three.  Silvers finished in 81st with a final tally of 253.

Sophomore Abby McNeley finished tied for 86th after posting an overall score of 257 (82, 86, 89).

The team taking the top spot in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic was Northern Arizona which finished with a final of 908 (309, 296, 303).  Montana State University's Kelly Gillum won the individual title finishing with a six over 222 (76, 72, 74).

The women's golf team will now look ahead and prepare for the Big Sky Conference Championship on April 20-22 which will also be played in Chandler, Ariz.
