White Takes Medical Leave of Absence

Greeley, COLO. -- University of Northern Colorado director of athletics Jay Hinrichs today announced that head women's basketball coach Jaime White will be on a medical leave of absence for an unspecified time period.

Assistant coach Paige Sauer will handle the head coaching duties in her absence, beginning with the game tonight against the Air Force Academy.

White is in her second year as the head coach at Northern Colorado and the Bears are currently 4-3 on the season.

"We want Coach White to know she has the support of not only her team, but the entire athletics department," said Director of Athletics Jay Hinrichs. "We will continue to work closely with Jaime and the members of the staff to assure that our student-athletes receive the academic and athletic support that they deserve. We also hope everyone will respect Jaime's right to privacy on this matter."

Northern Colorado officials are requesting sensitivity about the situation from the public and the media, and will not comment further on the announcement.
