Jan. 27, 2007
GREELEY, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado women's basketball team dropped an 85-54 decision at the University of Montana.
Heather Barbour led the Bears with 15 points, while Melanie Drangmeister, Whitley Cox and Kendra Lambrecht added nine each. Cox added a game-high six assists.
An early Drangmeister 3-pointer gave the Bears (4-16, 1-7 Big Sky) their only lead of the night at 10-9. The teams battled fair closely until Montana (18-2, 6-1) went on a 15-1 run over the last eight minutes of the first half to but Northern Colorado in a 36-19 hole.
The Bears started the second half with better play, and 12 minutes in had kept the scoring margin almost the same, with Montana holding a one-point edge at 24-23.
Two crucial categories the Grizzlies dominated in were points in the paint, 44-6, and bench points 36-11.
The Bears open a three-game homestand with a January 31 game against Sacramento State. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
