White named co-coach of the year in the Big Sky
OGDEN, Utah (March 16, 2011) - Northern Colorado's Jaime White and Portland State's Sherri Murrell were named the Big Sky Conference Women's Basketball Co-Coaches of the Year. This is the first time both coaches have been named Coach of the Year. The 2011 recipients were chosen in a vote by the league coaches earlier this week.
White is in her fifth season with Northern Colorado, helping the Bears to finish 17-13 overall, and went 12-4 in conference play to share the 2011 title with Portland State. Northern Colorado traveled to Portland, Ore., and had a bye in the first round as the No. 2 seed. The Bears played the postseason champions Montana in the quarterfinals and lost 55-46.
Under White, Northern Colorado placed three players on the 2010-11 All-Conference Team in senior Courtney Stoermer, junior Lauren Oosdyke and freshman D'shara Strange. Stoermer was named second team and Co-Defensive Player of the Year with Montana State's Sarah Balian, Oosdyke was named first team, while Strange was named honorable mention and Outstanding Freshman.
White has now collected a 62-47 (.416) overall record and 33-46 (.418) conference record.
Murrell is in her fourth season with Portland State. The Vikings went 20-11 overall and 12-4 in league play to share the 2011 regular-season title with Northern Colorado. This was the first regular-season title for the Vikings. Portland State hosted the 2011 Big Sky Conference Tournament and lost in championship game to Montana with a score of 62-58.
