Laramie, Wyoming- The Northern Colorado women's tennis team completed the final day of competition at the Wyoming Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 16. The Bears went 1-4 in singles play on the last day.

The tournament consisted of three flights of singles (gold, brown and white) and a pair of flights in doubles (gold and brown). There were a total of five other teams in the tournament besides Northern Colorado (Air Force, Colorado State, Montana State, Weber State and Wyoming).

In the gold singles flight, Tabatha Knop lost in Sunday's final to Stephanie Jasper (Montana State) 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-3. Her sister, Tiffany Knop fell to Lauren Wilson (Air Force) in the fifth-place title, 6-2, 6-1.

In the brown singles flight, Manuela Santos was defeated by Laura Villegas (Montana State), 6-1, 7-6. Natalia Agarycheva defeated Remy Clark (Montana State) in the ninth place match, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8.

In the white singles flight, Jodi Ciarvella was defeated by Carolina Chaix (Wyoming) in the fifth-place match, 7-6 (2), 6-3.

"We wrapped up our play in the tournament this morning and I was very proud of our girls reaching the finals," said head coach Brenda Vlasak. "Both Tabatha and Manuela had opportunities and the matches were so close they really could have went either way. Even reaching the finals at this stage of the fall season with limited practices was a huge accomplishment and improvement from last season."

The women's tennis team will next be in action Sept. 28-30 at the CU Invitational in Boulder.
