BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Northern Colorado swimming & diving team took to the pool in two dual sessions on Saturday against Northern Iowa and South Dakota State. In the morning, the Bears defeated the Panthers 136-104 and tied the Jackrabbits 120-120. During the afternoon session, the Bears against won against Northern Iowa, 144-70 but fell just short of South Dakota State 113.5-109.5.

"We had a lot of wins today," said Head Coach Kelly McClanahan. "We had 56 season best times today, we had a heck of a day. I could not be more happy or more proud of our team and what they're accomplishing. They swam their hearts out. We're getting faster every single weekend - there are still some things we need to work on, but to go into Thanksgiving with these scores and times is phenomenal."

MORNING SESSION
Sophomore JJ Smith won the 50 freestyle in 24.71, while Allison Scott won the 200 IM after swimming a 2:12.80. Junior Kelly Schmeckpepper-Cook continued to dive well winning the one-meter event with a score of 221.40. She also finished second in the three-meter with 249.10 points, while Sarah Cook was third with 244.05.

The Bears swept the top three spots in the 200 butterfly. Tori Gutt won in 2:14.87, while Hannah Halstrom was second in 2:16.05 and Brianna Lanute took third with her time of 2:16.14. Gutt was also second in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:25.74, while Amanda Donegan was third in 2:29.86.

In the 1650 freestyle, freshman Tatum Boehnke finished third with a time of 18:23.02, while Brogan Beyette finished right behind her with a time of 18:24.96 for fourth.

Hannah Halstrom placed second in the 200 free after swimming a 1:58.99 and Cheryl Bready was fourth in 2:00.07. Dawn Adams was third in the 100 free and Smith was fourth, timing in 55.31 and 55.37, respectively. Sammy Leonard also added a third-place finish, doing so in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.16.

The quartet of Donegan, Halstrom, Lanute and Bready took second in the 800 freestyle relay in 8:09.19.

AFTERNOON SESSION
After the break, the Bears came out and again swam well, winning five of the 11 events. Smith again won the 50 free, timing a 25.30, while Gutt was victorious in the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.22, then finished second in the 100 fly at 1:00.40.

Swimming a 59.70, Leonard won the 100 backstroke and the quartet of Bready, Adams, Hattie Oatts and Smith swam a 3:40.23 to win the 400 freestyle relay.

The 200 medley relay team consisting of Leonard, Donegan, Lanute and Adams finished second with a time of 1:53.12 which ranks 10^th in school history. Smith and Bready went 2-3 in the 100 freestyle with times of 54.91 and 54.98, respectively. Donegan also came back to finish second in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:08.51

In the 500 meter freestyle, Halstrom clocked a 5:17.95 to finish third overall.

Northern Colorado returns to the pool on December 5 when they host Wyoming in a dual that's being tabbed as Senior Day. The meet is set to begin at noon.
