Swimming Finishes Home Season With Dual Against San Diego State![]() RELATED CLICKS GREELEY, Colo. - Swimming in several non-traditional events, the Northern Colorado swimming team lost its last home dual of the 2009-10 season to San Diego State 125-107 on Saturday afternoon in a 13-event meet. There were only 11 events competed in the Butler-Hancock Pool as the two teams took the one- and three-meter diving scores from the Air Force Diving Invitational held on Friday and Saturday. At the diving invitational, junior Kelly Schmeckpeper-Cook finished third overall with a score of 256.25 on Friday evening in the one-meter event. On Saturday in the three-meter senior Sarah Cook finished 12th with 242.10 points and she was 14th in the platform with a tally of 155.45. Schmeckpeper-Cook was right behind her in 15th with 154.20 total points. Back in Butler-Hancock, sophomore Hannah Halstrom won the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:18.57, while freshman Alicen Fair was second and freshman Tatum Boehnke was third. Sophomore JJ Smith finished second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.98, while senior Dawn Adams, swimming her last home meet, finished third in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 55.12. The two teams swam in the 50 butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke, events not normally on the docket at collegiate meets, but both teams used them as training as the conference championship meets approach. In the 200 medley relay, the first event of the afternoon, the Bears quartet of Sammy Leonard, Tori Gutt, Halstrom and Hattie Oatts timed a 1:57.27 and in the final event, the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Cheryl Bready, Oatts, Adams and Smith timed a 1:42.06 to win. The Bears now take three weeks off from competition to prepare for the Conference USA Championships in Houston Feb. 24-27. The team will go through several time trials but will have no official competitions until that time. |
