Greeley, COLO. - University of Northern Colorado men's basketball and softball coaches announced the signing of seven total student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The men's team adds three to its roster for 2008-09, while the softball team signed four.

 

Men's Basketball

Head Coach Tad Boyle announces the signing of two high school players and one junior college player to National Letters of Intent. All three will enroll in the fall of 2008.

 

"I am very pleased with this group," said Boyle. "All of them have the ability to come in and help us right away."

 

Elliott Lloyd, 6-2, Houston, Texas (Klein Forest)

Lloyd is a three-year letterwinner for the Eagles, earning most improved player honors after the conclusion of his junior season. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and helped lead the team to the District Championship as well as the Regional Finals. He averaged 15 points and five assists per game and led the team with an 85% free throw percentage.

 

"Elliott is a very versatile player," said Boyle. "He can shoot from outside and also has the ability to pass and dribble."

Peña averaged 30 points per game during his senior year with the Panthers and also shot 46% from field goal range. He made second team all-conference in his senior year and was also named Regional Player of the Year in 2006. Peña also led the Panthers to the conference championship his junior year.

 

"Pena really shoots it," Boyle said. "He has a great feel for the game. The intangibles he brings are very good."

 

Michael Proctor, 6-8, Phoenix, Ariz. (Desert Vista)

Proctor was a 2006-07 First Team All-Region selection and is the captain of his team this year. He helped lead the squad to the state semifinals a year ago and the quarterfinals as a sophomore. He also is a three-year letterwinner in volleyball for the Thunder. Last season in basketball he averaged 11 points and seven rebounds per game, while in volleyball he averaged 19 kills per game.

 

"Proctor is a legitimate 6-8 that runs the floor very, very well," said Boyle. "He's going to be a very good player down the road."

 

Softball

Head Coach Jennifer Schunke announced the signing of three high school and one junior college student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.

 

"We are extremely excited to add these student-athletes to our roster," said Schunke.  "They will add some much needed depth to our program and are all very versatile ball players."

 

Erin Geddis, 2B, 3B, SS, 5-4, Mead, Colo. (Skyline)

Geddis is a three-year letterwinner in both softball and tennis for the Falcons. She plays second base, third base and shortstop, earning honorable mention all-state honors in 2006 and second-team all-area honors last season. She has helped lead the team to districts in 2004, 05 and 06 and they placed third in 2006.

 

"Erin is going to provide us with a ton of speed, both on the base paths and on defense," Schunke continued.  "She is a very versatile player who will only continue to improve once she arrives on campus.  We are expecting great things from her."

 

Jessica McNabb, SS, 5-7, Davidson, Saskatchewan, Canada (Davidson HS/Western Nebraska CC)

At Western Nebraska Community College, McNabb broke the school records for doubles, triples, hits, and RBIs in a season. She hit .527 with 61 RBIs and 95 hits last season, en route to All-Region honors. She was also an NFCA Academic All-Region pick.

 

"Jessie will bring some maturity to our program next year," said Schunke.  "She is a leader in all that she does, she just does so very quietly.  She was a tremendous find for us and we can't wait to have her here."

 

Alexandra Neely, P/UT, 5-6, Windsor, Colo. (Windsor)

An all-state selection as a junior, Neely is also a two-time all-conference performer for the Wizards. She is also a three-year letterwinner for the basketball team, where she plays guard. She helped lead Windsor to the State Championship in 2006 and is a member of the National Honor Society.

 

"Alex is a great person," stated Schunke. "Not only is she an outstanding athlete but she is also a very good student.  Her attitude and work ethic will help us continue to push this program in the right direction.  Alex will be a great utility player for us next year."

 

Erin Wilkinson, C/UT, 5-10, Windsor, Colo. (Windsor)

A three-time all-conference selection, Wilkinson was also a two-time All-State honorable mention pick for the Wizards. In 2005, she was named the Most Inspirational Player and was the MVP of the USSSA 16U All-Star Game and is also a National Honor Society Member. She was also a member of the State Championship team in 2006.

 

"Erin comes is currently ranked 1st in her graduating class at Windsor," said Schunke.  "Although she is young, she will bring a ton of experience to the catching position.  She, like her high school teammate Alex, possesses a great work ethic and winning attitude."
