Melisa Ryba singled in the third inning Sunday for Northern Colorado softball against Creighton, but that's the only hit the Bears were able to muster in a 4-1 loss to the Bluejays at the Wildcat Invitational.

Softball pushes win streak to three before running into second-ranked Arizona
Northern Colorado softball scored three runs in the third inning today against St. John's, and that was enough for the Bears to win 3-2 and claim a season-high third straight win at the Wildcat Invitational on the campus of the University of Arizona. The Bears knocked out all four of their hits against the Red Storm in that third inning and got seven strong innings in the circle from Jamie Juelfs to pick up their sixth win of the season (6-14).

Softball splits with Gophers, Flames in Arizona
Northern Colorado softball won its fourth game in five tries this morning with a 9-1 victory against the Minnesota Gophers before going cold at the plate in a 3-0 loss to the Illinois-Chicago Flames during the second day of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational. The Bears (7-15) strung together 13 hits against Minnesota, including the second home run of the season from Noel Wees, a triple from Megan Hamilton and a double from Melisa Ryba. Northern Colorado was only able to scratch out two hits, however, against Illinois-Chicago.

Northern Colorado got some strong pitching from Kelli Henderson and some solid hitting up and down its lineup Monday afternoon to knock off South Dakota State 7-3 at Butler-Hancock Softball Field and win its second game in as many days.

Softball uses season-best inning to win second straight Sunday matinee
Northern Colorado softball played like a team that had had enough Sunday morning in its 11-2, five-inning victory against Monmouth. The Bears (4-13) have struggled a bit with pitching and offense so far this season but those shortcomings were nowhere to be found against the Hawks in both teams' final game of the Texas A&M Invitational at the Aggie Softball Complex.

Softball's struggles continue during second day at Texas A&M
The Bears' bats remained on ice for another pair of games, and their pitching woes this season continued, as well, in a 9-0 five-inning loss to BYU this morning and an 11-1 five-inning loss to the host Aggies this afternoon at the Texas A&M Invitational.

Softball falls to Monmouth, #19 Texas A&M in College Station
Northern Colorado softball went to extra innings against Monmouth today in its first game of the Texas A&M Invitational but gave up six runs in the top of the ninth to fall 9-4. The Bears then struggled to muster much offense in a 7-0 loss to the host Aggies later in the day to fall to 3-11 this season.

Wilkinson claims Bears' first Pacific Coast weekly honor
Northern Colorado softball didn't take long to make a name for itself in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference. The Bears, who are 12 games into their inaugural season as PCSC members, claimed their first conference honor today when sophomore Erin Wilkinson was named the Mountain Division Player of the Week.

Softball bangs out season-high 17 hits in slugfest with Lobos
The Bears scored five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings today to get past New Mexico 13-11 and salvage its final day of play at this year's UTEP Invitational. The Lobos (8-6) went ahead 8-1 after two innings, but Jen Schunke's Bears (3-9), who finished 1-4 here in southwestern Texas, busted out for 11 hits in the fourth and fifth innings to score 10 of their own and take a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Softball falls in two more lopsided losses in El Paso
Northern Colorado suffered through another tough couple of games Saturday during the second day of play at the UTEP Invitational. The Bears have had some troubles so far this season limiting opposing offenses but they've done a pretty good job scoring runs and getting involved in slugfests. Today, though, Northern Colorado struggled in both categories, falling 11-0 to UTEP and then 16-1 to San Jose State.

Softball's pitching woes continue on first day at UTEP
Northern Colorado softball saw its early-season streak of pitching struggles reach nine games today as it lost its first two games in the sixth annual UTEP Invitational. The Bears surrendered nine runs in their first two innings of a 12-5 loss to New Mexico and then gave up at least a single run in five of seven innings in a 7-1 loss to the host Miners.

Softball settles for split with New Mexico State
Northern Colorado scored seven runs in the second inning and a single run in the top of the eighth to hold on for an 11-10 victory against the Aggies. Sophomore Erin Wilkinson led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, and senior Kelli Henderson and sophomore Melisa Ryba backed her with two RBIs apiece in the win for Northern Colorado (2-5). Northern Colorado struggled in the circle in its second game against NMSU and fell 21-3 in five innings. New Mexico State scored 11 runs in the first and 10 in the third to cruise to the easy win.

Softball nabs third spot in PCSC preseason poll
it appears as though the Bears’ road to the PCSC’s NCAA Regional bid won’t be as hard as you might expect from a team playing in its inaugural season. The conference released its annual preseason poll on Monday evening, Jan. 25, and Jen Schunke’s program has been tabbed third in the Mountain Division. Northern Colorado received 41 points to come in behind second-place Seattle (50 points) and preseason division-favorite Portland State (12 first-place votes and 72 points overall). The Bears are picked to finish ahead of Utah Valley (37), Idaho State (34) and Weber State (18).

Softball Team Enjoys Successful Fall
Northern Colorado softball has enjoyed one of the most successful fall seasons in recent history. The Bears finished up the fall with a 5-1-1 record, highlighted by a dominating performance at the Triple Crown Sports College Classic, where they went 4-0-1. After several years of struggling against Division I competition, head coach Jennifer Schunke has the team gelling at the right time.

Northern Colorado softball coach Jen Schunke has announced plans to host an open walk-on tryout at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, on Butler-Hancock Softball Field.
