Solid game leads to victory for Bears soccer

BOISE, Idaho - Northern Colorado soccer used
the whole bench today in a 1-0 victory over the Idaho Vandals in
the first of two games at the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Boise
State. This puts the Bears to 3-2-0 on the season going into
Sunday's game against Boise State.
The Bears dominated possession of the ball during the game,
firing seven shots with two on goal in the first half. The score
remained locked up at 0-0 going into the half, however.
It was not until the 78th minute of the match up that freshman
Alexsys Tamayo was able to put in the game winning goal for the
team. Tamayo took a corner kick from senior Sydney VanderVelde to
score he first goal of the season just past Vandal goalkeeper Liz
Boyden.
The Bears outshot Idaho 16-8 with sophomore goalkeeper Kirsten
Salminen only having to provide the Bears with two saves on the
day.
"I am really pleased with how the group played," said head coach
Tim Barrera, "The back four were really organized and played a
really solid game. It was really a team effort."
Northern Colorado will wind up the weekend with a Sunday matchup
at 1:30 p.m. against the Boise State Broncos before a 10 day break.
