OGDEN, Utah - University of Northern Colorado junior golfer Jenny Henderson was named the Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week on Thursday after tying for second at the Troy Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Ala. earlier this week. Henderson, a native of Fargo, N.D., fired a final round 3-under-par 69 to go along with a 76 during Monday's first round. Henderson's 36-hole total of 145 was three shots behind winner Elin Andersson of South Alabama. Henderson's 69 was the low round of her collegiate career, besting a 74, which she shot twice as a sophomore. The 69 was the first shot by a Northern Colorado golfer since Emily Russell fired a 69 in September 2003 at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic. Northern Colorado finished tied for fifth in the 15-team tournament. The Bears shot a 36-hole total of 609. South Alabama won the event with a 587. Northern Colorado shot a 298 in Tuesday's second round, the team's lowest total since moving to Division I. Henderson's award marks the second time this year a Bears golfer has been honored with the award; Kelley Newton was the Co-Golfer of the Week for Oct. 18, the last time the award was given. Eastern Washington was the only other Big Sky school in action this week. The Eagles competed at the Las Vegas Showdown in Henderson, Nev. Chloe Nelson tied for 52nd to lead the Eagles. Nelson fired rounds of 79, 79 and 74 for a 229. |
