This Week
The University of Northern Colorado women's golf team wraps up the fall portion of its 2006-07 schedule when it competes at the Troy University Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at the Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery, Ala.

The Bears are coming off their best finish of the season, a third place finish at the UMKC Kenneth Smith Classic on Oct. 17.

Last Time Out
Kelley Newton and Jenny Henderson finished second and third respectively at the UMKC Kenneth Smith Classic, helping Northern Colorado to a third place overall finish at the event which was held at the Fred Arbanas Golf Course on Oct. 16-17.

Newton, the individual leader after round one, fired a round of 77 (+5) on Tuesday to finish second overall, four strokes behind Oral Roberts' Christy Carter. Carter shot an even round par score of 72 to claim the individual medalist title. Newton earned Big Sky Conference Co-Player of the Week honors for her performance. A year ago Newton led after round one of the event but finished 10th overall. This year her strong second round performance helped the Northern Colorado team, the defending champion at the event, to a third place overall finish, as they finished four strokes behind second place Northern Iowa and 14 strokes behind champion Oral Roberts.

The junior Henderson had a season-best round of 72 (E) on Tuesday to move from 13th place overall to place third, one stroke behind Newton. Sophomore Heather Daviner improved her first round score by three strokes and finished 24th (+17), while junior Regina Rodriguez improved her first round score by 11 strokes to finish 33rd (+19). Sophomore Matti Nelson had a final round 84 and was 52nd (+26).

Bears Officially Members of the Big Sky
The 2006-07 season marks the first in the Big Sky Conference for the University of Northern Colorado. The Bears are not eligible for the Big Sky or NCAA Championships this season but are eligible beginning with the 2007-08 season.

White in First Season as Head Coach
Brandon White enters his first season as Bears head coach in 2006-07. White, only the second coach in program history, is a Greeley native and was a standout at Greeley Central High School and also at Pepperdine University. White was the 2000 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, completed PGA Qualifying School and was a member of the Grey Goose/Gateway Tour from summer 2003 through winter 2005.

National Rankings
In the latest set of Golfweek national rankings, Northern Colorado is ranked 160th out of 234 Division I teams (Oct. 27). The Bears were ranked 147th at the end of the 2006-07 season.
