OGDEN, Utah - University of Northern Colorado senior women's golfer Kelley Newton was named the Big Sky Conference Co-Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after finishing second at the UMKC Kenneth Smith Classic which ended on Tuesday.

She shares on honors with Montana senior Jill Walker, who earned the honor for the second straight week.

Newton, a native of Englewood, Colo. had a round of 73 (+1) on Monday and followed that up with a final round 77 (+5) to finish at +6 for the two-round event. She finished four strokes behind individual medalist Christy Carter of Oral Roberts.

A year ago Newton led the event after round one but finished 10th overall. This year her strong second round performance helped the Northern Colorado team, the defending champion at the event, to a third place overall finish, the squad's best finish of the season.
