WINDSOR, Colo. - UC Davis claimed the team and individual medalist titles while Northern Colorado finished second in both categories at the 2006 Division I Independent Women's Golf Championship held at Pelican Lakes Golf & Country Club and hosted by the University of Northern Colorado.

UC Davis led from the first round through the completion of the event, topping the host Bears by 34 strokes, including a blistering combined score of 293 on Sunday.

The Aggies Danielle Cvitanov shot a 1-under par 71 to close the event and wrap-up the individual medalist title. She finished at 219 (+3) for the three days, nine strokes better than Northern Colorado's Katie Avery. Avery fired a 75 on Sunday, her lowest round of the three-day event.

UC Davis then had the next three finishers, as Kelsey Fischer was third (+13), Bryana Gregory was fourth (+16) and Jee Park was fifth (+17). UC Davis entered the weekend ranked 67th nationally in the latest GolfWeek rankings.

North Dakota State's Amanda Miller and Jacklynn Miller of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tied for sixth (+18), South Dakota State's Kelly Evans and Northern Colorado's Kate Dobbs tied for eighth (+19) while SDSU's Holly Opatz and Kelli Endahl tied for 10th (+23).

South Dakota State had a great final day, jumping to third in the final standings, 13 strokes behind the runner-up Bears. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who was fifth after Saturday, finished fourth, North Dakota State slipped from third to fifth, Texas-Pan American was sixth, Utah Valley State was seventh and Northern Colorado's "B" team was eighth.

Other Northern Colorado finishers included Jenny Henderson (13th, +25), Kelly Newton (14th, +27), Shayna Godfrey (14th, +27) and Heather Daviner (27th, +37). Northern Colorado "B" team golfers included Matti Nelson (26th, +35), Katie Carson (37th, +66), Amy Patterson (38th, +69) and Alicia Fortney (39th, +80).
