WINDSOR, Colo. - On a windy and sometimes wet day at the 2006 Division I Independent Women's Golf Championships, UC Davis increased its lead by a stroke over the host University of Northern Colorado Bears following the second of three rounds held at Pelican Lakes Golf & Country Club.

UC Davis, ranked in the top 100 nationally entering the tournament, combined for a score of 314 and is eight strokes ahead of Northern Colorado entering Sunday's final round. The host Bears are second, North Dakota State improved its score to jump to third, South Dakota State is fourth, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is fifth, Texas-Pan American is sixth while Utah Valley State and the Northern Colorado "B" team are tied for seventh.

Individually, Danielle Cvitanov of UC Davis fired a round of 76, four strokes higher than her first round score, but maintains a 5-stroke lead over second place Katie Avery of Northern Colorado. Avery was one stroke better on Saturday than she was in Friday's first round, shooting a 3-over par 75. UC Davis' Kelsey Fischer is one stroke behind Avery in third place, North Dakota State's Amanda Miller is fourth, one stroke back, and Northern Colorado's Shayna Godfrey is fifth at +12.

Northern Colorado's Kate Dobbs, playing for the Bears "B" team, shot an 81 on Saturday to fall from second place to sixth overall.

Other Northern Colorado "A" team golfers include Jenny Henderson (11th), Kelley Newton (11th) and Heather Daviner (28th). From the "B" team, Matti Nelson is 30th, Amy Patterson is 36th, Katie Carson is 38th and Alicia Fortney is 39th.

Sunday's final round tees off at 7:30 a.m. MT.
