WINDSOR, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado has five individuals and the UC Davis women's golf teams has four individuals in the top 10 after day one of the 2006 Division I Independent Women's Golf Championships being held at Pelican Lakes Golf & Country Club and hosted by the University of Northern Colorado.

Danielle Cvitanov of UC Davis is the individual leader after day one, shooting a 33 on the back nine holes to finish the day at even par (72). She is four strokes ahead of a trio of players in second place, which includes Holly Opatz of South Dakota State, Bryana Gregory of UC Davis and Kate Dobbs of the Northern Colorado "B" team.

Northern Colorado's other individuals in the top 10 are Katie Avery (+5, 5th), Kelley Newton (+6, 6th), Jenny Henderson (+7, 7th) and Shayna Godfrey (+7, 7th). UC Davis' other golfers in the top 10 are Kelsey Fischer (+7, 7th) and Jee Park (+7, 7th).

UC Davis is in first place in the team competition, seven strokes ahead of the Northern Colorado team. South Dakota State is third, North Dakota State three strokes back in fourth, Texas-Pan American fifth, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sixth, the Northern Colorado "B" team seventh and Utah Valley State eighth.

Day two of the three day event begins with a 7:30 a.m. tee time on Saturday morning.
