Last Time Out
Northern Colorado dropped a pair of nine-point games on the road last week, falling 52-61 at Weber State on Friday ad 65-74 at Idaho State on Saturday. Senior guard Whitley Cox scored 20 points for the sixth time this season with 20 at Idaho State, while freshman forward Lauren Oosdyke narrowly missed her second straight double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds at Weber State.

NC vs Portland State
Northern Colorado is looking to snap a four-game losing skid to Portland State. The Bears are just 2-6 all-time against the Vikings and have not won since a 61-56 victory in Greeley on Jan. 19, 2008. Both of the team's wins have come in Greeley with the first win being the first-ever meeting in 1989. The only neutral site game came in 2008 when the teams met in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Championship in Missoula and the Vikings won 82-69.

NC vs Eastern Washington
The Bears have won the last four and five of the six all-time meetings against the Eagles. NC also boasts a perfect 3-0 mark in Greeley. The two teams had never faced each other prior to NC joining the Big Sky Conference in 2007.

Scouting Portland State
Portland State is tied atop the Big Sky Conference standings with a 3-0 league record and is 9-7 overall. On the road, the Vikings have a 2-3 record and have won five of their last six overall. Senior guard Claire Faucher leads the team with 14.7 points, 6.6 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Katy Wade leads the club with 5.8 rebounds a contest.

Scouting Eastern Washington
The Eagles are the other team tied for the lead in the league with a 3-0 record. Overall they are 9-6 and have a 2-5 record on the road and have won three straight. Julie Piper leads the team in both scoring (11.5) and rebounding (6.9), while Jessica Huntington averages over four assists a game.

On This Date
On January 14, the Bears have posted a record of 3-5 and are 1-1 at home. The last game was in 2004, with the last home game in 2000, a 76-67 win over St. Cloud State. The team is just 3-6 on Jan. 16, historically, and are 1-3 at home. However, the team has not played on the 16th since 2003 nor at home since 1999.

Stronger
As the season progresses, junior forward Brittany Fernandez continues to get stronger on the court and in attacking the boards. In the last four games she has tallied 34 rebounds and been in double figures twice. At Weber State on Friday, Fernandez brought down a team and career-best 11 rebounds. In those four games, if Fernandez played the entire 40 minutes she would be averaging 16.6 boards a game.

The 60s
Senior guard Whitley Cox currently ranks 62nd in the nation in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game, while junior guard Courtney Stoermer is listed at 63rd in three-point field goal percentage in the most recent NCAA Division I statistics, making .398 from beyond the arc.

Liking The Eagles
Junior guard Courtney Stoermer has enjoyed playing Eastern Washington. In four games, she has averaged 17.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game while shooting .588 (20-34) from the field and an amazing .688 (11-16) from beyond the arc. Against all of the Big Sky, Stoermer has averaged 12.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting .375 from the floor and .384 from the arc. Last season in Cheney, Stoermer scored her career-high of 25 points.

Free Throw Facts
In the final five minutes of a game, with the margin on the scoreboard 10 or less, the Bears are shooting .73 (33-for-45) on the season but are an amazing .900 (18-for-20) since the end of finals.

Jumping Out
Jaime White must say the right things during her pre-game speeches as the Bears are 7-1 this season when coming out and taking a lead in the first half and 1-1 when tied. On the flip side, the Bears are 0-6 when entering the locker room trailing the opposition.

Double Down
Junior guard Courtney Stoermer is second on the longest active streak of double figures in scoring in the Big Sky Conference at 15 games. She is right behind senior guard Charday Hunt from Sacramento State at 18 games. Senior guard Whitley Cox trails the pair at 14 consecutive games with 10+ points.

Double, Double Toil and Trouble
Freshman forward Lauren Oosdyke tallied the second double-double of her career in the win over Northern Arizona on Saturday. Oosdyke had a career-best in both points and rebounds with 15 and 12, respectively. Her other double-double came against Eastern Illinois with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior forward Jayne Strand has the team's other on the year with 13 points and 12 rebounds against Colorado Christian.

Crashing the Boards
Freshman forward Lauren Oosdyke became the first Bear to record 100 rebounds this season, doing so in 14 games. It is the second-fastest mark to 100 rebounds since the team began the transition to Division I as Danielle Hagen hit 100 in the 10th game of the 2007-08 season. She also tied for the quickest player to 100 in the league this season as both she and Amy Patton of NAU did so in their 14th games.

Back To Back
Senior guard Whitley Cox became just the third player in Northern Colorado history to earn Big Sky Player of the Week honors and she did so in back-to-back weeks after leading the Bears to a 3-1 mark over a four-game home stretch. Cox is the first player since Mandy Morales from Montana earned back-to-back nods in Jan/Feb of last season.

Making The Free Ones
In the win over Colorado State, the Bears shot .938 from the free throw line, making 15 of 16. The percentage ties the school Division I record from Dec. 2, 2005 at Nevada with a minimum of 10 made. The Bears are now shooting .707 from the charity stripe, increasing their percentage 46 points in the last six games from .661.

The Watch List
Junior guard Courtney Stoermer is inching closer the 1,000 point milestone in her career. She currently has 917 points, needing just 83 more to become the 15th player in school history to score 1,000. With her current season scoring average of 14.5 per game she should break the barrier at Denver on Feb. 3.

Closing In
Several players are approaching career milestones. Sophomore forward Kaisha Brown is now just 13 points shy of 300 for her career. Junior guard Courtney Stoermer needs just nine steals for 150 in her career and is two blocked shots shy of 50. Senior guard Whitley Cox is 25 points shy of tying for fifth on the career scoring chart with 1,353 points. She also needs eight field goals for 500.

Stop Thief!
Junior guard Courtney Stoermer leads the team with 30 steals on the season and currently ranks ninth all-time with 141. With her next steal she will tie Diane Worner (1980-84) for eighth and two more will tie her with Shelley Lindstrom (1988-92) for seventh. She is also just 48 shy of the school record of 189 steals held by Renee L'Heureux (1981-85).

Climbing Cox
With 14 points in the opener at New Mexico, senior guard Whitley Cox now ranks in the top-10 in scoring at Northern Colorado. She has 280 points on the year bringing her career tally to 1,328 to rank sixth. With 26 more points she will move into fifth past Diane Worner (1980-84).
