Pair of Bears advance to NCAA West Preliminary

INDIANAPOLIS -- Northern Colorado will have two compete at this year's NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary from Thursday to Saturday, May 26 to 28, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Sophomore Evan Taylor and senior Tyler Short both made the cut announced by the NCAA on Thursday.
Taylor will compete in the 100 and 200 meters, and Short will compete in the 400 hurdles.
Taylor enters the meet seeded 25th in the 100 (10.43 seconds) and 19th in the 200 (20.88). Short earned the 25th seed in the 400 hurdles after winning the Big Sky Conference Championship in the event at 51.59 seconds.
Short and the rest of the 400 hurdlers will be the first athletes on the track next week. The women will start the track events at 3:30 p.m. (PT) Thursday, while the men's heats will follow at 3:55 p.m.
Taylor will begin competition in the 100 at 5:30 p.m. Friday and in the 200 at 6:10 p.m. Friday. The 100 quarterfinals are scheduled for 4:35 p.m. Friday, and the 400 hurdles quarterfinals will start at 5:35 p.m. The 200 quarterfinals are at 2:50 p.m. Saturday.
Semininal qualifiers in all events next week, along with finalists in the 5,000 and 10,000, will advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship from June 8 to 11 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
