Greeley, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado head coach Jennifer Schunke today announced the softball schedule for the 2008 season.

With only 10 home games scheduled this season, the Bears will start off at the BYU/UVSC Red Desert Classic on Feb. 2 in St. George, Utah. At the tournament the Bears will start the season with a game against Utah Valley State on Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. NC then takes on BYU (Feb. 8 at 1:30 p.m.) for the first time ever. The Bears continues tournament play and battles against Wisconsin (Feb. 9 at 11 a.m.), Southern Utah (Feb. 9 at 4 p.m.) and Utah (Feb. 10 at 11 a.m.).

The team will play in four tournaments throughout the month of February. During these trips the Bears will see (according to last season's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll) #21 Loyola Marymount and #14 Creighton. Both of these teams are on the Bears schedule twice in two different tournaments during the month. The final trip in February will be to the University of Texas El Paso Invitational in El Paso, Texas, with games against Prairie View A&M (Feb. 28 at 4 p.m.), UTEP (Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.), Loyola Marymount (Feb. 29 at 9 a.m.), UC Riverside (Feb. 29 at 1:30 p.m.), Binghamton (March 1 at 9 a.m.) and Georgetown (March 1 at 11 a.m.)

"I'm really excited about this year's schedule," said Schunke. "I think we play a solid mix of teams from around the country. I'm looking forward to the start of the 2008 season and the challenge that will be presented to this year's team."

NC will then take a break from tournament play and take on perennial power Nebraska on March 8-9 in a pair of games in Lincoln.

The Bears final tournament of the season will be the Capital Classic in Sacramento, Calif. where the Bears will play Ohio State (March 15 at 12:30 p.m.) for the first time since 1982. NC will also face Cal Poly (March 14 at 12:30 p.m.), California (March 14 at 3 p.m.), Nevada (March 15 at 3 p.m.) and Sacramento State (March 16 at 9 a.m.)

The other teams on the home slate for the Bears are Western Nebraska (April 8 at 4 & 6 p.m.), Utah Valley State University (doubleheaders on April 18 & 19) and UNLV (April 24 at 5 p.m.)
