UNC Softball Adds 5 To 2003-04 Recruiting Class

GREELEY, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado's softball team added five more players to its 2003-04 recruiting class on Wednesday as announced by head softball coach Linda Witt.

The Bears have added Brooke Boyer (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina HS/Colorado State), Katie Clark (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood HS/Adams State), Brianna Richardson (Arvada, Colo./Arvada HS/Northeastern JC), Erika Trujillo (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge HS) and Astrid Yestness (Nantucket, Conn./Liberty HS) to the 2003-04 recruiting class.

Brooke Boyer (Outfield) is a transfer from Colorado State University and will be a senior for the Bears in the spring. Boyer played prep softball at Marina HS in Huntington Beach, Calif. She was a four-year letterwinner in softball. She served as a three-year team captain and was selected team MVP as a senior. She played for the Southern California Firecrackers Gold in ASA.

Katie Clark (Catcher/Infield) is a transfer from Adams State College and will be a junior for the Bears. She was a four-year letterwinner at Lakewood HS in softball. Clark was a two-time member of a state championship squad (1997 & 1998) at Lakewood HS. Clark was a three-time all-conference selection. Clark earned honorable mention all-RMAC honors last season at Adams State.

Brianna Richardson (Pitcher/Utility) will be a junior after transferring to UNC from Northeastern Junior College. Richardson was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Arvada HS. She was an all-conference selection as a senior, while setting the school record for strikeouts as a pitcher. She was a two-time first-team all-region selection at Northeastern JC.

Erika Trujillo (Outfield) will be a freshman for UNC this spring. She was a four-year letterwinner at Dakota Ridge HS in both softball and track. She was a two-time All-Colorado selection in softball as both a junior and senior. She was a four-time honor roll student and a recipient of the Renaissance Award.

Astrid Yestness (Infield/Outfield) will be a freshman for the Bears this year. She was an all-state infielder at Liberty HS in Nantucket, Conn. Yestness earned four letters in softball, three letters in basketball and three letters in track. She set the school record for RBI in a season (35) as a junior. She is a member of National Honor Society and a three-year member of the honor roll.
