Whitney Platten Named to Preseason All-Independent Softball Squad

SEASIDE, Calif. - University of Northern Colorado senior catcher Whitney Platten was named to the preseason NCAA Division I All-Independent team on Friday.

 

Platten hit .350 last season with six home runs and tallied 22 runs batted in. Platten also scored 11 runs and was named to the Division I-II All-Independent team in 2004.

 

Every school had at least one representative on the NCAA Division I Preseason All-Independent team. The voting was done by representatives of IPFW, Longwood, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State and Utah Valley State as well as Cal State Monterey Bay who is coordinating the NCAA Division I Independent softball information this year.

 

Longwood and North Dakota State led the way with three selections each. Three players were unanimous selections, Jenna Beachy (IPFW), Lynnae Foshag (North Dakota State) and Steph Kuhl (South Dakota State).

 

To make the ballot, you had to be a returning player, bat at least .250 and played in 75 percent of the games. Pitchers had to be a returnee, pitched in at least 1 inning per team games and have a winning record.
