Bears Tally 3-1 Victory Over South Dakota State To Salvage Saturday's Action

The UNC softball squad earned a 3-1 8-inning victory over South Dakota State as play wrapped up on Saturday at the North Central Conference North-South Tournament II in Brookings, S.D. Earlier in the day UNC had lost a pair of games to St. Cloud State (8-0, 5 innings) and North Dakota (7-2).
The Bears will take on Minnesota State, Mankato and North Dakota State on Sunday. UNC is 15-18 on the season and 5-7 in league play.
ST. CLOUD STATE 8

St. Cloud State held the Bears in check and scored an 8-0, 5-inning victory over UNC. St. Cloud State starting pitcher Nicole Webb limited the Bears to only two hits in the game.
The Bears offense was held to a first-inning single by Kim Kelly and a third-inning single by Lindsey Jorgensen. UNC starter Stacey Moon dropped to 5-3 on the year after giving up eight hits, eight runs (five earned) and four walks while striking out two Husky batters.

North Dakota knocked off the Bears for the second time this season with a 7-2 triumph. The Fighting Sioux was led by pitcher Tara Peterson, who held UNC to six hits and struck out six UNC batters.
The Bears' offense was limited to an RBI single in the first by Erin Peterson which plated Stephani Miller. UNC's only other run came via a home run by Lisa Schol in the fifth inning. The Bears' Cristin Dumler was the only UNC batter to tally two hits in the game as she went 2-for-4.
UNC starting pitcher Stephani Miller allowed 10 hits and seven runs (four earned) in dropping to 4-7 on the season.
NORTHERN COLORADO 3
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 1 (8 inn.)
The Bears broke into the win column with an extra-inning win over tourney host South Dakota State, 3-1.
South Dakota State scored one unearned run in the third, but UNC's Kim Kelly tied things up in the fourth inning with her third home run of the season. Neither squad could plate another run until the Bears scored two runs in the top of the eighth to take the victory.
UNC scored in the eighth on RBI singles from Stacey Moon and Jana Pintz. UNC starting pitcher Cristin Dumler set the Jackrabbits down in order in the bottom of the eighth to earn her sixth win of the season. Dumler is 6-8 on the season.
The Bears' bats awoke in the victory as Lindsey Jorgensen, Erin Peterson, Stacey Moon and Lisa Schol all went 2-for-4.
