Northern Colorado Defeats George Washington; Bears Fall to Southeast Missouri State at Rebel Games

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Northern Colorado softball squad split a pair of games on Tuesday at the Rebel Spring Games. Northern Colorado tallied a 6-1 win over George Washington before dropping a 5-1 contest to Southeast Missouri State.

The Bears earned their seventh win of the season with a 6-1 victory over the Colonials. George Washington scored its only run of the game in the second inning and after that the Bears took control of the game.

Northern Colorado scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-1 lead. The Bears blew the game wide open in the sixth with a four-run rally to take a 6-1 advantage in the contest.

"The score was a lot closer than the game really was against George Washington," head coach Linda Witt said. "We left 11 runners on base but we are still happy with the victory."

The Bears' batting leaders against the Colonials included Kati Miller (3-for-3 with a double and a walk), Mackenzie Barrett (2-for-4 with a double) and Whitney Platten (2-for-3 with a pair of singles).

Senior Stephani Miller (3-6) worked the complete game to earn the victory in the pitching circle.

Southeast Missouri State 5, Northern Colorado 1
Northern Colorado could not keep its momentum alive that it gained earlier in the day as Southeast Missouri State was able to slow down the Bears and score a 5-1 victory.

SEMO scored first in the contest with a run in the top of the fourth. Northern Colorado knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. But SEMO was able to get a single run int he sixth to take the lead.

Northern Colorado committed two errors in the seventh inning that led to three Redhawk runs.

SEMO limited the Bears' hitters to only five hits in the game. The Redhawks tallied 11 hits (all singles) on the offensive side of the ball.

Sophomore Kelsey Dumler (4-8) took the loss for the Bears.
